Even the name is spirited and exciting! Pantone suggests incorporating Tangerine Tango in apparel, cosmetics and patterned home accessories. We suggest bringing fresh flowers of this color into the home, office or applicable space to get a visible ...

Here at Sun Valley, we are most excited about the color green. And this is why:
In early January, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) came in and replaced 740 90-watt Halogen reflector light bulbs in our Arcata greenhouses with energy-saving 23-watt CFL reflector lamps. These bulbs will cut down on our carbon footprint by an estimated 26,253 lbs/yr, and ultimately save a lot of energy. We believe in doing everything ...

Tulip production has started at Sun Valley's newest production location in St. Catharine Ontario. The farm is located just 30 miles from the USA-Canada border and can efficiently service our customers in the Northeast and Midwest USA, as well as Eastern Canada. Sun Valley acquired the farm in the Niagara region of Canada as a strategic move to provide a high quality, soil grown tulip to the east coast of North America. Tulip production is scheduled from January 2011 through Mother's Day.
Existing Sun Valley tulip customers will be delighted that the Canadian tulips are grown using the same criteria as those grown in California. A skilled team of Sun Valley team members have spent the last few months getting the farm operationally ready according to Sun Valley standards. Now the tulip growing process at the Canadian farm mimics that of the Arcata farm, meaning the highest quality bulbs are selected from around the world; they are planted in soil and spend their "winter" in coolers; and the tall, thick-stem, large-bud tulips are grown.
Tulips can be shipped directly from the Canadian facility or from fresh inventory staged at facilities in Chicago and New Jersey.
To check out the exceptional quality, please contact the Sun Valley Group sales team at (800) 747-8700.

SPRING IN TULIPVILLE
Right now, everyone in Tulipville is buzzing about spring tulips! While we wrap up the harvesting of winter tulips originating from New Zealand and France, our team is busy preparing for the coming spring.
In fact, spring tulip planning actually starts a YEAR in advance, when we choose the right mix of bulbs to purchase and plant for the next season. The bulbs, which hail predominantly from the Netherlands, come in about six months before their growing season. When they arrive at the flower farm they are planted in soil crates and held in high-humidity rooting coolers, where they form small sprouts and root systems. Next, they are whisked away to very cold wintery coolers, where they patiently await spring.
During the springtime, the tulip bulbs are moved into the Greenhouse sometime around two weeks before they are ready to be harvested. He re they receive a heavy dose of TLC and the right mixture of temperature, moisture and sunlight so they can blossom into the beautiful tulips Sun Valley is known for.
The tulips are then harvested and sent on their way to the Bunching Room. Experienced team members carefully grade, bunch and package the tulips with amazing speed and accuracy as they travel down the bunching lines. Then, from the Bunching Room to the Packing and Shipping Warehouse the tulips go! The Warehouse team members work diligently to pack the tulips into upright tulip hampers (boxes) and load them onto pallets bound for refrigerated trucks, which are ultimately bound for you, our customers! These team members are fantastic representations of Sun Valley's Guiding Principles, and Sun Valley is proud to name the Team Members of the Year. Here are the Team Members of 2011:
Marcos Cruz has worked at the Arcata farm on and off for the past 15 years. He has always been a very hard worker, and this year he took over tulip planting-planting a record number of tulips in record time-and ran one of the tulip bunching lines. It can be a stressful job, but Marcos did it with ease. He is an essential player in Sun Valley's Continuous Improvement Program and furthermore, always has a big smile and great attitude. His positive demeanor, dedication and excellent work led to him being voted Team Member of the Year at the Arcata farm.
Jose Ortiz (Niko) has been with the Sun Valley Oxnard Division for 18 years. He started out on the Picking Team and then was promoted to a farm driver. He is responsible for collecting all freshly harvested products from the field and transporting them directly into coolers at the main farm. Niko is incredibly efficient, always performs his tasks in a timely manner, and has an outstanding positive attitude. For these reasons, he was voted Team Member of Period 5 in 2011, and now has received the honor of being voted Team Member of the Year at the Oxnard farm.
Saira Carrillo started with the St. Catharine's Planting Team in fall 2010 and then worked on the Bunching Line for Valentine's Day production. In the midst of Valentine's Day shipping, Saira was promoted and began running the Transportation and Billing Department by herself. She rapidly became the go-to person for the whole farm. During the first year of production at the St. Catharine's farm, Saira gave unsurpassed amounts of time, energy, and positivity needed to keep the team together. Her team is proud to name her the first Team Member of the Year at the St. Catharine's farm.
Sun Valley would not be where it is without the unrivaled effort, noteworthy devotion and wonderful attitudes of team members like these. On behalf of the entire Sun Valley Team, thank you and congratulations to these admirable team members!

THE LATEST BUZZ: GREEN!
We believe in doing everything possible to minimize our impact on the Earth and to make the most of the natural resources on this amazing planet we share.
PG&E changed the bulbs for Sun Valley free-of-charge under the initiative, Redwood Coast Energy Watch: Small Business Direct Install, a partnership between PG&E and the Humboldt County local government designed to reduce utility costs for local residents and businesses while simultaneously contributing towards a cleaner environment. The initiative was established in 2006, and provides a wide range of energy-saving services to the small commercial, public agency and residential market sectors.
Southern California Edison (SCE) performed a similar service for our Oxnard greenhouses under their Energy Management Solutions program. Throughout the past year, SCE provided a free energy assessment report and replaced 12,000 100-watt Halogen reflector bulbs with 20-watt fluorescent bulbs all over the farm. This will significantly diminish the energy usage and carbon footprint of our Oxnard farm.
Thanks to PG&E and SCE, we're saving green by going green!
